What is Conservation Framing?
Simply put, conversation framing employs the use of materials that have been proven to protect and maintain art in its original condition. When the subject you are framing is something that you treasure, you need to ask for conservation framing.

Mats make a difference
Ordinary pulp-based matboard contains acids and lignins which, over a period of time, damage the art in which they come in contact. Conservation quality mats are acid- and lignin-free and contain no impurities, which can damage the art they surround.

Glass it can make or break preservation
Ultra-violet light is one of the most dangerous elements that your artwork can encounter. It will not only cause colors to fade, but will cause the materials themselves to begin to break down. Conservation glass is specially formulated to protect framed works from 97% of the damaging effects of ultra-violet light.

A word about glue, tape, cardboard and other stuff…
Acidic paper used in many mat boards and other products, such as cardboard, will damage your artwork over time. The same is true for various types of non-conservation glue and tape. It is essential to the life of your valuable art that the framer you choose is knowledgeable about such products.
