Exciting New KU Art Competition and Exhibits Announced!
SouthWind Gallery, in collaboration with the KU Alumni Association, will present a unique art competition that provides a venue for artists to showcase their talents and celebrate the beauty of the KU campus.
Excitement has been building since the Call for Entries was issued to artists last month for the 2008 KU Campus Plein Air Art Event. Approximately 100 artists are expected to participate in this one-day painting event that will take place on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, Saturday, April 26, 2008. The 2008 KU Campus Plein Air Art Event is a juried show with cash prizes totaling $2,250.
“Plein Air” is just another term for painting outdoors in the fresh air. And, that’s just what the artists will be doing as they capture the KU campus on canvas. Art patrons and the general public will have ample opportunity to see and purchase paintings from the event at three separate exhibits later in the year.

The first exhibit is a “Preview Gala” to be held in September at the Adams Alumni Center on the KU campus, followed by a second showing in Lawrence during KU’s Homecoming week in late October. The exhibit will then move to SouthWind Gallery in Topeka, for its third and final showing in November and December.
In addition to the original paintings offered for sale by SouthWind Gallery, the KU Alumni Association (KUAA) will have limited edition prints available and a “coffee table” art book featuring the artists and their paintings from the 2008 KU Campus Plein Air Art Event.
If you’re a KU fan, or know someone who is, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to see some of the best art ever created on beautiful Mt. Oread! Watch for more information coming soon.
